T2 Biosystems
Bringing medical diagnostics where it belongs. Everywhere.
T2 Biosystems is a private company developing next-generation medical diagnostic products using its proprietary technology, combining nanotechnology and miniaturized magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology to provide immediate, accurate diagnostic testing for nearly any health condition, in nearly any setting.
The mission of the company is to become the industry standard for rapid and accurate diagnostic testing offering medical instruments of appropriate size for each setting. The company is focused on delivering a broad menu of diagnostic tests that are easy to use by any unskilled person where the rapid test response can make a difference in the quality of care. T2’s revolutionary new technology is based on clinically-proven MRI technology, using tailored nanoparticles to quickly detect—within minutes—the presence of specific substances in solution using a miniaturized, benchtop or hand portable instrument.
T2 Biosystems first diagnostic product, the NanoDx System, consists of a small, disposable cartridge of pre-loaded, nanoparticle reagents and a small portable benchtop or hand portable instrument that contains many of the components found in conventional MR instrumentation, including a permanent magnet, detection coil, and spectrometer. These components have been miniaturized for portability, and the NanoDx features an easy-to-use touch screen user interface.
The immediate results of the NanoDx system will allow health professionals to make medical decisions almost immediately and its versatility and portability are amenable to a broad range of potential applications across a wide variety of medical, environmental and other applications.
T2 Biosystems was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In-Q-Tel initially invested in T2 Biosystems in October 2008.
